Welsh assembly to introduce bilingual law

A new bill to make both English and Welsh as official languages of the Welsh assembly is under discussion after the Welsh Language Board criticized the Welsh Assembly commission of not following bilingual scheme of publishing the assembly proceedings in English and Welsh. The bill is expected to be ready by the end of this year.

Translation of the assembly proceedings from English to Welsh was stopped in September last year going against the draft Official Language Bill giving equal importance to English and Welsh. Simultaneous interpretation of the debates in the assembly as well as translation of official documents in both the languages would be put in place through the bilingual services scheme of the assembly.
