Vietnamese translator conferred Hungarian culture award

Giap Van Chung, the 58 year old translator from Vietnam has been awarded the Pro Cultura Hungarica meaning ‘For Hungarian Culture’ award for this year. The prize instituted by the Hungarian government is presented annually to persons who contribute towards spreading Hungarian culture around the world.

Giap Van Chung has translated over 10 books including those of Nobel Prize winning author Imre Kertesz from Hungarian into Vietnamese. He has also translated several short stories from Vietnamese into Hungarian. He studied at the Budapest Technical University and has made Hungary his second home. He is the second translator from Vietnam to be honored by the Hungarian government after Le Xuan Giang, the veteran translator who received one of Hungary’s highest honors of the Gold Cross Medal in March.
