PEN translation awards for 2011 announced

The American branch of the international literary and human rights organization PEN (short for Poets, Essayists and Novelists) has announced its 2011 literary awards that include translation works totaling $150,000. Khaled Mattawa gets $3000 prize for his work ‘Adonis: Selected Poems’ in the PEN award for Poetry in Translation category. Ibrahim Muhawi gets the PEN translation prize of $3000 for his translation work ‘Journal of an Ordinary Grief’.

In addition the PEN translation fund plans to make 11 grants of $3000 each for various translation works from German, Italian, Chinese, Swahili, Russian, Portuguese, and Spanish languages into English. The awards are due to be presented at a function in New York on October 12th.
