Microsoft’s Bing to enhance English language search of Chinese Baidu

Microsoft’s Bing is expecting to increase its share of search queries in China through a tie up with China’s Baidu. The latter has about 75% of the Chinese market of search engines while the former has practically none. Google pulled out of the Chinese market protesting against its censorship policies last year and has only a 20% share of the market through its Hong Kong based site.

Baidu handles about 10 million queries in English a day and hopes to improve the search quality through this tie up. The tie up would also help Baidu’s plans of expanding its international presence which is limited at present to a Japanese version launched in 2007. For more information please visit
