Indian professor gets highest Chinese literary award

Prof Deepak of the Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi has been awarded ‘Special Book Award’ by the Chinese government for his contribution to Chinese studies, translation and literature. He has translated 88 classic Chinese poems written by various poets in the 11th to 14th century BC into Hindi.

Prof. Deepak is the first Indian to receive the award and it was presented to him by the State Counsellor, Liu Yandon at a function held in the National Theatre of Performing Arts, Beijing last week. Besides translating the poems, he has authored no. of books on India-Chinese relations, history of Chinese literature and also a Chinese-Hindi dictionary.
