European integration requires professional translation

Serbian government representatives in European Integration Office told a conference in Belgrade earlier this week that professional translation is becoming an important factor for all potential EU member countries joining EU. Its Director Milica Delevic said Serbia is obliged to translate 200,000 pages of European Union’s Acquis Communautaire and about 35,000 pages would be completed this year itself.

As part of the Tempus project which is an EU program for reforming the higher education in EU partner countries, 6.3 million Euros have been earmarked for Serbia’s universities for foreign language studies, training interpreters and translators. These steps are considered important for quick integration of Serbia with the EU as and when it happens. For more information on the topic please visit
