CIUTI Forum 2011 held in Beijing

Beijing Foreign Studies University hosted the International Conference on Translating and Interpreting Education Development 2011 (CIUTI) last week. About 300 experts from 18 countries and 38 member organizations like the UN, European parliament, European Union etc participated in the discussion on interpretation and translation education worldwide.

Delivering the opening address, Mr. Shaaban M. Shaaban, Under-Secretary-General for the General Assembly and Conference Management said compared to computer and other professionals, the no. of translation professionals was low and there is shortage of the same. Hence there is urgent need to address this issue by international organizations and the academia through interaction and close cooperation.

CIUTI is an international organization established in 1951 with the aim of promoting translation and interpreting education globally. The conference has been held for the first time in China.
