UN looking for interpreters and translators

The United Nations is looking for interpreters and translators as its existing staff are due to retire soon according to Mr. Muhammad Shaaban, Under Secretary-General for General Assembly and Conference Management at the UN. During a recent visit to China for signing MOU on training language professionals with Beijing Foreign Studies University, Mr. Shaaban said the jobs would carry a monthly salary of around US$5000 and other benefits.

The UN has been signing such MOUs with universities around the world since 2007 having already signed up with 18 universities covering the 6 official UN languages. The aim is to have sufficient language professionals for the UN and its sister organizations well in time to replace the retiring personnel.  As part of the program, the UN would provide internship to students, send senior translators and interpreters for lectures and adapt the curriculum to the needs of the UN.
