Rabindranath Tagore’s ‘Shesher Kavita’ translated into English

Nobel Laureate Rabindranath Tagore’s novel “Shesher Kavita” has been translated from original Bengali into English as “Last Poem” by Prof Dilip Basu. The novel, fifth and last written by Tagore in 1928 has been translated into English before but Prof. Basu claims the earlier translations lacked the essence of what Tagore had conveyed in Bengali.

The story is about an Oxford educated youth wary of traditions of his motherland meets a girl in a car accident and exchanges letters in the form of short poems. Dilip Basu is a professor at University of California, Santa Cruz and the translation was released by Ms Sharmila Tagore, grand niece of Rabindranath Tagore. The book has been published by Harper Collins India. For more information on the subject please visit http://books.hindustantimes.com/2011/12/english-translation-of-tagores-shesher-kavita-released/.
